Her Haven Board of Directors and Valued Contributors

The dedicated team that makes Her Haven happen.

Carey Dougherty

Founder & Executive Director

Carey Dougherty brings a diverse range of professional experience to Her Haven. A lover of learning, Carey has studied several foreign languages, received her BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991, completed a graduate program in Japanese at Tokyo’s Keio University in 1995, and received her residential interior design certificate from Fairfield University in 2008.

Carey’s inspiration for Her Haven came while working on high-end residential design projects in Fairfield County, when she realized that those who could most benefit from the gifts of design were those who may not have access to or the means to hire a designer.  Her Haven was “born” in 2012.

While Carey is humbled by the amount of support Her Haven has received and by the lives it has touched, her biggest source of pride is her two teenage daughters who challenge, amuse and inspire her!  She lives with them and her husband in Monroe, CT.

Karen Stier

Board President

Karen’s business career culminated with a role of VP Investment Research that involved the selection and oversight of Prudential Annuities mutual fund platform including serving as liaison to the board of directors for the funds.

Karen met Carey Dougherty at a student meeting and knew immediately that she wanted to be involved with Her Haven.  Serving  as a student designer in one of Her Haven’s early projects, Karen has continued to be involved with Her Haven and joined the board to put her business experience to use for the organization.

Karen is a graduate of the Bucknell University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and WCSU where she received her master’s degree in Mathematics.  She lives in Gaylordsville, CT with her husband and golden retriever, visiting her kids and grandkids whenever possible.

Jeanine Beck

Jenine brings deep compassion and care to Her Haven’s board and to its endeavors.
